  1. Lactarius indigo & Candy Caps, if I ever make it to California
  2. Hi Dave the number is 67528 Morels haven't really started here in N. Michigan, where I'm at. Probably a week or two away yet.
  3. I was just reading thru your article and thought I'd shoot this to you. Last year I found some " extra white " morels that I thought were just sterile. I sent one to a friend and he looked at it thru a scope, and to him they appeared to be sterile too. He sent it to someone else and they found it able to produce spores. ( when I receive his information I will forward it to you ) anyway, I posted it on " Mushroom Observer " finally, almost a year later, I received information that it may be, either Morchella esculentoides or M. cryptic or, even a new strain.
  4. Unless they're already turning or turned black, they will be as white as snow !! Try the hard buttons, battered & fried. Make sure you have a spatter screen to cover the pan. Too much moisture , they spatter in the grease.
  5. Beautiful pictures Mary, and a great story ! Sounds like you Girls had a blast!! Those Wild Grapes are huge and that Iphone takes some darn good pictures too. The rains like we've been getting too, makes me glad I bought that Pentax W90 It's also an under water camera, good to 20' down.
  6. Hey Sparky, didn't know you were on this site too. I finally found some L. indigo's . Looked all over the woods here in Lewiston and couldn't find any. Went to cut the lawn and there were 3 under a Red pine. Guess I better pay more attention to what's growing in my yard !! Also had a big ring of Marasmius oreades.
  7. Mary, Don't let them get your goat. I use a creel also, and they are great. But, I also carry a big back-up basket !!Note how the handle is taped up, I broke it carrying too many King Boletes.
  8. My Grandaughter Jazmin & I were on our way to a spot, but never made it. Ain't " Road Hunting " GREAT !! We ended up with around 4 lbs.
  9. Does anyone have the link to the article on Leccinum insigne poisonings ? I had it but I can't find it now. I want to share it with a friend in Germany, that eats them all the time. It may be just the North American Leccinums that were in question . Thanks
  10. You got me on that one Dave, I didn't even think about the spore color ! I'm dying up here, we haven't had any rain since the Morel Season. The only mushroom I found was that Sulpher Shelf about a month ago. And that was while driving down the road in the Shroom Mobil !!
  11. My guess would be Russula aeruginea and the last 2 Russula virescens.
  12. Dave, I just saw your post today. It finally warmed up here. The Blacks were out in full force, and huge. But they only lasted about two weeks. The Whites are starting now and the same thing. They're huge. This past week was in the 70's and I think that's what brought the Blacks to a quick end. It's supposed to cool down to 60 for this week and more rain. I kind of got a little aggravated Sat. I hunted an area that is well known and State land. Lots of people out there and almost all were looking for Blacks . ( which on the most part are done ) All the people I talked to had some older Blacks ( no Grays or Whites ) To make a long story short. The people were walking on and smashing the Grays. These weren't that small that they couldn't see them, 3 to 4 inchers. Smashed Grays & Whites everywhere. I think they actually didn't know what they were or didn't think they were up yet. I went into some really thick areas to get away from the people, and ended up finding around 300 Grays & Whites . ( nice ones ) Also about 75 big Semiliberas.
  13. Dave, I posted it today 5-17-2011 at 9:00 am on Mushroom Observer. I would have left one growing , but I'm sure it would be picked very soon. Lots of pickers in that area ( State Land ) I don't know what I was thinking, as I threw them on a pizza with some other Morels. I should have dried them !!! Maybe someone would have wanted to dissect it with a scope. Too late now though. Maybe I should name it Morchella skrcenyii. LOL
  14. OK, I have been picking Morels for many years, and I'm still not a pro. This one has me stumped. I came across them picking Blacks. It was around a White Ash. ( White Morels are barely starting ) and here are these guys. It looks like an Albino . Maybe the spores are Pink "LOL." Ya all now the shrooms on the second pictures . maybe because it's too mature , it could be a Delicosa. But it don't fit the description to me.
  15. O.K. That did it !! I won't miss anymore pictures in the Mag. that you folks post. I just subscribed to Fungi Mag.
  16. Dave, You are killing me over there. We moved into a new house a month ago ,here in northern Mi.. The morels should have been fruiting 3 weeks ago, and still nothing. No verpas, Gyromitras, not'a. We have plenty of moisture but the temps. have been below freezing at night and in the 40's during the day. All the mushroom Festivals are this weekend too. I have a feeling that if it warms up we will have both Blacks and Whites fruiting together . Or perhaps, no Morels at all this year. Our dream house in "Michigan's Morel Belt" ain't panning out this year.
  17. Welcome back Blake !! Stumpjumper, where in Michigan are you at ? It's good to see a fellow Michigander here !! Nothing happening in my neck of the woods yet. It's supposed to be in the 60's tomorrow, so I'll check some spots and report back.
  18. Glad everything's OK down there ! Up here, the last bit of snow in the woods is finally gone. Now all it has to do is warm up some and I think I'll be in business. I think we had more snow the last 3 weeks, then we had all winter. It's been raining every day & night since Saturday.
  19. Dave ...... You lucky guy !! I see the NAMA foray is going to be held in the Black Forest Pa. Aug 4th thru Aug. 7th. I'm going to see if I can get my " Ducks In A Row " and make it out there . I've always wanted to attend just one , in my life . Probably won't get any closer to my state then this one . http://namyco.org/events/index2011-0.html
  20. It sure isn't happening where I'm at in Northern Michigan ! This is this morning 4 / 17 / 2011, 8:15 a.m. I think I have awhile yet !!
  21. 40's.... I wish it was that warm where I'm at. The next weeks forcast for Lewiston Mi. is a high of 25 and at night in the single didgets, with snow !!! This always happens though, two weeks ago it was almost in the 70's. Last year in May, we were picking Whites in 2 inches of snow.
  22. Thought this was pretty interesting so I borrowed it from another site. Feral Boy, do you remember them being really huge back then ? Probably tasted really good with some Dinosaur steaks !! He ! He ! He ! http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/03/110303120855.htm
