  1. Hey ..... also sorry for late response. What part of the state you’re in ? Oh yes !! That would be way too much right now. We have our hands full. I’m slowly introducing my 3 year old to wild edibles. She’s really interested and happy when I bring things home. Yes to messaging. In the main menu at top right there’s a little envelope to start a message
  2. I would call these chanterelles. Even after 5 years of collecting chantys myself, as I’m cutting them to place in my basket I’m treating each and everyone as individual...... Inspecting each one to a certain degree. Just something I practice. Nice find !!! They’re out in full force here in South Louisiana !! Happy pickens !!
  3. Welcome. I’m not too far west of you near Lafayette. Great folks here. Plenty of mushrooms out right now for study and the table. Happy pickens.
  4. I second that ..... Coolest find for my self year to date
  5. My mushroom calendar is way off this year ...... that’s only about 5 years of documentation but it’s a start. Early harvest are late and later fall mushrooms fruiting a couple months earlier than usual
  6. Definitely a Tylopilus..... thanks. Should have another fresh one next few days to examine closer
  7. Yes forgot to add...... I’ll remove pore surface on more mature specimens
  8. Lol. I really enjoy them. I was explaining to my better half that they taste like what the woods smell..... best way to discribe it. I actually really like them. But then again I eat some pretty weird things.
  9. Yes. It’s a bit aged though white to cream pore surface
  10. Can’t make me believe I found a type of king bolete in south Louisiana. Searched through ME and Bolete filter and came up clueless Found under oaks NOT staining blue(blue color is from Lactarius Indigo) Had them in same baskety Turning brown on damaged surface Tossed before getting a sliced photo. It smelled pretty foul. It was on the down fall Should get another specimen within the next week. Found in the back yard amongst many others.
  11. I’m jealous of you guys. My sweet potato sacks aren’t getting filled this year. Between life and work just haven’t had enough time. Lack of rain up until this week has been scarce. Very sweet scores gentlemen
  12. Welcome aboard. Very friendly and knowledgeable folks here.
  13. I believe these are Strobilomyces floccopus due to the existing pinkish cap in the young specimen. Just thought I’d share their beauty with you guys. Found in the back yard next to my little chanty patch. Finally we’re getting consistent rain fall here. Haven’t been out much lately. Hopefully this weekend I’ll have some decent hauls to share
  14. Lol. First thing though when I seen it!!! Your guess is as good as mine. The boletes are mind boggling most of the time. Hang tight and I’m sure the experts will shed some light
  15. Very cool looking indeed. That’s probably the first bolete I find this year that the bugs didn’t get to first. Good possibility the lack of bitterness is due to no rain last week. At first I failed to realize the specimen was quite dry when picked. Very quick walk in the woods while in North Louisiana
  16. Brought home for more analysis.... On second taste test .... definitely a hint of bitterness. Almost peppery like a Lactarius piperatus but not as prominent. But almost in a good flavor way.... not overwhelmingly bitter.
  17. Found in mixed woods. Mostly pine and oak. No staining Taste pleasant( Nibbled small amount then spit out)
  18. Found near oak and pines No staining Taste pleasant (Small amount nibbled then spit out) Really awesome find !!
  19. Lol. Hasn’t been too great this year. At least this way I can read up and study other edibles to broaden my horizons. Managed to pick a few pounds but no sweep potata bags full this year. Been dealing with rural developers plowing all the mature blocks of forest to put up apartment complex’s. Pretty much everything else around me is swamp. Pretty soon I’ll be having to drive a few hours north for decent pickens.
  20. Sweet score!! One of these days I’ll be as cool as you !! 😎
  21. Thanks guys. Not much action going on. Very hot and dry That’s exactly what happened 5 years ago when I first located these !! lol
  22. Lookie lookie here !!! This is usually my fall harvest. First time in 5 years I’ve seen them fruit in the summer here in the south.
  23. Hope ya don’t mind us high jacking your thread a little while Matt lol That’s the story of my life man. Been hunting a giant swamp deer behind the house 2 years now. These whitetail are EXTREMELY instinctual animals. Seen him last year in November for the first time at 80 yards while bow hunting. I about soiled my pants. No photos though. Maybe this year I’ll put a camera up. I like the suspense. Happy hunting!!
  24. I’m sure they would work well. I didn’t want to use the few packs I have stashed for hunting season quite yet. Slim pickens this summer. Lol. Thanks but hang on to your trumpets. I have plenty of game in the freezer and veggies out the garden. One of these days I’ll come across them
  25. If I were to do anything different.... I would use fresh chantys in next batch. I used already dehydrated crushed chantys. Not that it came out bad just still in experimental stage lol. Pretty darn good !!!
