gkavulich
Found these around an oak tree stump. Thought they might be grifola frondosa, but I've never seen them this white or with so thin. Any ideas?
Tasso
Looks to me like a so-called "cauliflower mushroom". Check this link and see what you think: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/sparassis_spathulata.html
Dave W
Not Grifola frondosa. This is a Sparassis species. The name given to the most common eastern NA species has changed a few times. I think it's currently Sparassis crispa. This is commonly called the "Cauliflower Mushroom". Very good edible; requires fairly long cooking to make it tender. Note the "ribbon candy" appearance of the "leaves". Nice find!
