Cedric
Lost of those. Interestingly, most grew from the forst floor, but some seemed to grow directly from rotten wood.
Dave W
Nice job, Cedric. I never find this species around here. So I'm not used to seeing it. Older specimens like this one look a lot different than the oft-depicted button stage. And I didn't know about the genus change form Austroboletus to Heimioporus (check your spelling :-) Looks like you've got it pegged.
Cedric
Thanks. There is an area in Raleigh where they seem to come out a lot.. Haven't sampled it yet but hopefully this week. Will post other pictures with younger stages if they are there.
ChefsWild
Cedric, I am also in Raleigh and I took five pounds of Heimioporus betula today. They are really popping right now so it is easy to grab a ridiculous amount and still leave plenty. Want to join forces sometime?
Cedric
Hi ChelsWild, that would be great. I seem to be in Raleigh every other week... Next trip planned is week after next. Why don't we exchange phone numbers and I'll let you know when I come over and we see if we can do an outing together. Mine is 910 599 0610 Cheers
ChefsWild
Sounds cool, shot you a PM. There's more popping than I can use myself, and I'm putting away a lot of dehydrated caps and pickled stems!
