Dave W Posted May 7, 2020 Report Share Posted May 7, 2020 Dryad saddle mushroom (Cerioporus squamosus) is edible when the fruit body is young. As it matures it develops a somewhat disagreeable taste (although this is a subjective judgement). Also, the flesh tends to become tough as it ages. Not my favorite edible, but some people enjoy it. No idea about the existence of a market for C. squamosus. I'm guessing that you get most of your Nebraska morels under elm. Is this the time they usually get started there? I found my first one April 23. I have been hunting morels for about 45 year. I remember what my elders always said when the lilac’s bloom the morel are up and that is what I always go by. Has never failed me yet.i have found about 300 already this year. Last year was on of our best years found over 60lbs.
