Logan Green
Anyone have ideas on this little yellow/orange oddball? Found in northwest Washington in a forest of mostly cedar and alder, close to a large wetland. Just curious about this little guy.
Vermonter
Looks like it might be Hygrocybe chlorophana (golden waxycap).
Dave W
There are a few different species of Hygrocybe that feature yellow-capped mushrooms. Another one --in addition to H. chlorophana-- is H. flavescens http://www.mushroomexpert.com/hygrocybe_flavescens.html . The two species mentioned are eastern NA types, which may or may not also occur in Washington. There may be one or more types that occur in western NA but do not occur in the east. But I think Hygrocybe is a good bet for the genus. Seeing the underside would be helpful.
vitog
Both H. chlorophana and H. flavescens are listed for Washington state in "Pacific Northwest Distributions for Macrofungi", Website: http://www.svims.ca/council/distri.htm , along with several other yellow Hygrocybes.
