AbigailG
Hi! I am new to mushroom hunting. I came across these growing on a fallen log on a trail in SW Michigan. Are they golden oysters? Are they edible?
brendan
I'd wait for someone else to confirm but they look like oysters to me, growing on wood, decurrent gills, you can always take a spore print too. And don't forget to check back again next year they should continue fruiting. Man, seems like people are finding these EVERYWHERE lately, I'm torn between feeling jealous haha and wondering if it's in any way a problem how frequently they seem to be popping up, given they are not wild but escaped cultivation by my understanding... Dave W
I think these are Pleurotus citrinopileatus, Golden Oysters. Gerronema strombodes is somewhat similar, but with longer/thinner stalks.
