x000111
A couple of years ago I went hunting all over the woods for morels and never found anything. Then I ended up finding three in my back yard! This was my first time finding them. They were hollow and and had the usual morel cap (or whatever it is called on a morel). I ate two and they were great. However a few days later I broke out in what appeared to be chicken pocks. At this point in my life, I had already had the chicken pocks twice. I felt a little tired, weak and nauseous but never vomited. Could eating these morels have done this?
vitog
You could be allergic to morels; that's not unusual. However, signs of allergy usually show up within a day of consuming the allergen; but I suppose that there could be exceptions.
DufferinShroomer
Generally if you are going to have a problem with eating a mushroom it will show up within 24 hours. Most of the GI irritant sorts will start causing symptoms within 3-4 hours. Some of the nastier poisonous ones have a delayed reaction time in the 24 hour range. Getting a rash several days later is unlikely to be caused by eating a mushroom. It could however be caused by picking the mushrooms. Pioison ivy for example will not generally be leafed out in morel season and it can be hard to spot but nonetheless still cause problems. I pick morels in a couple of spots where the morels fruit in with the poison ivy and you have be careful or you will suffer later. Best guess is you had an encounter with some plant or some sort of disease. I would be reluctant to blame the morels if the rash happened 3 days later although I suppose anything is possible. x000111
Thanks for the input. I can rule out poison ivy since I walk through it all the time with no problem. However, the time span information you provided is helpful. The next time I get the chance, I will eat morels! If it happens again, I will never eat them again.
