Any luck with Chanterelles lately in Pa?
Z-Unit22 replied to Z-Unit22's topic in General Mushroom Discussion
Alright cool thanks. -
Thinking about going Chanterelle hunting for the first time ever. I think I have some coniferous woods near me that I wanted to check out. Anyone been finding at Chants this season or lately?

Another question on Hen vs. Black Staining Polypore
Z-Unit22 replied to Jackie P's topic in Identifying Mushrooms
Not a hen. -
I only took the outside edges and it was fine. Thanks for the reply.

Well I tried a little and it tasted alright. Not gonna eat a lot since I have never had it before. Also had a little alcohol and didn't realize this is one of the wild edibles to avoid when drinking. Guess we will see how it goes. Hopefully it was an oak tree too. I don't know why people tell beginner foragers to go for chickens. Seems like more of a intermediate mushroom to me. Most beginners can't identify trees and it is apparently important with these.

I’m hoping Hen but maybe it’s Black Staining Polypore?
Z-Unit22 replied to Jackie P's topic in Identifying Mushrooms
Yeah prob black staining polypores. Which is still an okay edible when young or if you use the soft outer parts. When I was a super noob to hunting I ate one that looked just like this and was covered in mold! What a dummy. -
Found these today in the woods. Pretty positive they are chicken of the woods but just wanted to double check before I eat them. Does it matter if they are growing on hemlock? The log is so old and dead I don't know what it is.

Found some white mushrooms growing out of a pile of dirt that was dumped in the park. It was recently dumped and still loose and might of had the mycelium in it already. Eastern Pa growing directly out of the ground.
