  1. So that's where all the caps from the ones I didn't pick went! I was wondering.
  2. I'm so depressed! My chicken of the woods has been eaten and I want more, just can't find any. (
  3. Thanks for the tip Dave, I'll surely follow your advice!
  4. Believe me, I'm the biggest chicken when it comes to eating stuff that may not be all too good for you! Dave replied to my other post about the Honey's, I did the spore print and it was a real nice white. These are growing in clusters on an old beech stump and there are a ton of them. The gills go to the ring, and they have the little "hairs" on the cap so I'm like 99% sure they are Honey's. I will however fry one up, eat a small part, like the size of my thumb nail and sit back and see! If that goes good, I'll eat a little more within 24 hours and see again. Then I'll be sure they're good. All of this why? I'm a chicken!
  5. Finally got around to getting some honey mushrooms today. Saw a recipe for honey mushroom perogies I think I'll try.
  6. Great find! I just found my first chickens as well. Been eating them in everything, scrambled eggs, on a bagel with cheese, by themselves with garlic and olive oil. They are the best!
  7. Thanks DS! I sliced them up yesterday and boiled them for about 5 minutes and put them in the fridge. Last night I took out a slice and fryed it with some olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper, being my first one, this was the test slice as to whether or not I'd react to it. Boy was it a great tasting fungi! I ate two slices today for the sencond part of my test and all is well. I could eat them all at once, they are so good!
  8. Thanks Dave! You're always full of great info! I really appreciate your comments. Thanks again.
  9. Here are some photos of a find I came upon today. They are all scattered around a beech tree stump that was blown over last year during our taste of a hurricane. There are really allot of them and they are fairly new, they weren't there last week. Any ideas? Thanks allot!
  10. Thanks for the reply Dave. I guess I'm lucky in that half my land is pines and the other half is mostly hardwoods. This one was growing on a beech log laying on the ground. I just wish I was more knowledgeable, there are tons of species growing around here! I really want to join one of the clubs you mentioned before, I just need to find more time.
  11. First ever for me, small bunch about a pound, but I'm excited that I finally found some!
  12. Thank you for the reply. I did cut them in half, some may have been young as a few where pure white inside and some where partly black inside. So these will not be in my diet! Thanks again.
