  1. Welcome from south Louisiana as well.
many knowledgeable folks here. Plenty of oysters to be had at this time of the year. Keep an eye out for chicken of the woods and lions mane as well. I tend to find them all on oaks this time of the year

I’m not familiar with any other groups in the gulf region other than Gulf States Mycology group. I believe they have a Facebook page that is active. I don’t do Facebook so not 100% on that.

  2. I’d say one of the many white milk caps. Lactarius sp

Note the concentric circular patterns on the top of the cap.
I bet if you take a small nibble and spit ,it’ll be fairly peppery.  I don’t collect these for consumption but I’ve read somewhere that they dehydrate these ( I believe it was India ) and use as a peppery spice.

  3. Welcome aboard!! Very friendly and knowledgeable folks here. Really cool website you have there.

Been in a major drought here in South Louisiana. Usually this time of the year I’m filling bags with wild edibles. Pretty big bummer  l

  4. I’d say with certainty it is NOT a chanterelles

I would suggest looking into lactarious or russala

Press with finger on gills to see if it extrudes white latex substance.

Or snapping the stalk to see if it snaps like chalk. Russalas tend to have this characteristic.
