Chanterelle? Found in Santa Cruz woods (CA)

Hey all,

Just stumbled upon this little guy amongst a grove of oaks I believe (included a picture of the tree and leaves for reference because I have no experience identifying trees). It seemed to be a bit trampled when I found it, but still pretty surprisingly in tact. I say it might be a chanterelle because (well I hope so, for one) my friend had told me he finds them around this spot, and it seems to hold a few notable characteristics, though maybe unripe. This was yesterday afternoon, about 5-7 days after the last rainfall. Interested to see what you think!

It definitely has the classic triangle shape of a young Cantharellus californicus, and the habitat is right.  But, like Dave said it's too beat up to tell.

Do you still have it?  It looks like there is a part of the cap that has an intact underside showing some veining,  can you post a pic of that?
