J Kal
Found this today in the forest. Smells really sweet and has a lot of the characteristics used to identify sweetbread mushrooms. Waiting on a spore print, even tho just by looking inside the gills I can see pink-ish spores. Flesh is white, gills are white to pink/salmon color. Cap is gray and slightly feels like leather to the touch. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
The Mushroom Whisperer
They certainly appear quite similar to Clitopilus prunulus, but this is one of those mushrooms that you must be extremely careful about, due to it's similarity with several poisonous species. Dave W
I think one possibility is these are Entoloma abortivum mushrooms. Were there whitish blob-like fungi growing nearby? Also possible they are some other species of Entoloma. E. abortivum is not toxic, but some other Entoloma mushrooms are. To be really confident you may need to use a microscope. Sadly, I do not own a microscope and for whatever reason, all three spore prints I tried taking failed. Literally, nothing came out of them. I tried hydrating the caps a little, and none of the 3 spore prints I took came worked. I guess I'm not gonna take the risk of consuming these ones.
