caine12
These two mushrooms were found near an river tributary in kentucky, the first one has a pretty fragile hood, they were found growing from cracks in the ground from flooding The second was found grow at the base of a dead tree, the appeared slightly more orange when i picked them, now they are the color they are now, the gills on the smaller ones are really black gills
Kevin Hoover
Did the first ones have sparkles on top? They look like mica caps to me
caine12
no the flesh of the cap is much thinner and the skin around cap. they also dont have lines goingthrough the flesh on the cap, it's very smooth
Dave W
For the dark-gilled ones, non-striate caps (no radially arranged ridges) supports genus Panaeolus rather than Coprinellus (C. micaceus is "Mica Caps"). Pale-gilled one... probably need microscopy to get a better idea. If growing on wood then maybe species of Hypsizygus. Not much confidence here.
