Catherine M.
I have a large number of these mushrooms growing near a squash plant in back yard. I thought they might be luxury caps but the gills are a tan shade, not white. They are smallish 1.5 - 2 in.across, about 2in. tall. Can you tell me what they are? GCn15
Armillaria tabescens would be my proposal. It appears they have dropped white spores based on your photo. Look like they may have seen a touch of frost by chance?
Dave W
I believe I see remnants of partial veils on the stalks (white/cottony deposits on the stalks). The largest one appears to show part of a ring on the upper stalk. I think these may be Armillaria gallica. To gain confidence, knowing the spore print color would be useful. Although, both Armillaria and Marasmiellus/Gymnopus luxurians have white prints. (I'm guessing by "luxury caps" you mean M./G. luxurians...?) These don't look like M./G. luxurians to me. The small scales on the caps point away from this species. If you have a magnifying glass, then you may want to examine the little scales on the caps. If they are actually bundles of tiny hairs stuck together, then this would be support a proposal of Armillaria.
Dave W
There is an other post that features the exact same mushrooms. I am deleting the other (identical) post.
