DShroomGuy
Found these growing by a hickory tree but also oaks near by. Wondering if these are honey mushrooms? Looks similar but no expert here. Thanks for any help!
Rondayvous
They look too small to be honey, and the color of the photos are orange to buff on my screen. Spore print?
Kevin Hoover
Check against deadly galerina?
DShroomGuy
Not sure if size varies due to conditions. They aren't really orange more light brown cinnamon looking. Maybe the lighting of the pic. If they are still fresh enough I'll see if I can get a print. Might be too late now.
Rondayvous
I've never seen Honey Mushrooms that small that weren't very immature. I have a very strong vote against these being any kind of ringless honey.
DShroomGuy
Definitely not an expert here. Can't refute your thoughts on the size issue. Last time I posted what I thought were honeys Dave had confirmed it. Also yes they were significantly larger. Did look similar to these but so many mushroom look alike with minute details telling them apart. That's why I'm here to figure it all out. Will see about the spore print just for curiosity sake. Hopefully they are fresh enough still.
svs
I found clusters of tiny ringless honeys. Overall they look like it. Stem in honeys is also distinct, firmer darker outside and softer whiter inside, although inside part may degrade in older mushrooms
bprzyw
They seem to be missing the darker center color, and the tiny black hairs on them. I'm unsure
Dave W
These look similar to Desarmillaria tabescens, the "Ringless Honey Mushroom". But, as stated, they are smaller/thinner than what is typically seen for this "species". Actually, probably more than one species grouped under this name. There appears to be some greenish staining on the caps, an unusual trait for D. tabescens. Possibly D. tabescens, but I don't have high confidence in this proposal. DShroomGuy
Thanks for the input on these everyone. Unfortunately never got the spore print. I will eventually be near where I found them so maybe there will be more again eventually.
