MicroDoc
Just behind my house. By itself and extending downwards from a downed and dead tree. Not sure what type of tree. The stem was fully 4" into the tree but detached easily. The cap is easily bigger than my hand. The stem is tough, hard, fibrous. What do you think? MushroomGuru
Looks like an Hypsizygus ulmarus, common name "Elm Oyster.
Dave W
Hypsizygus is a reasonable proposal. If the wood is pine, then I'd also consider Neolentinus lepideus.
