Cortinarius is a very large genus (100s of species). Some are edible, some are toxic, some are deadly. Except for C. caperatus (which this is not) none taste good. C. iodes is not toxic. maybe 35 years ago I tried some C. iodes. Tastes like dirt. There are quite a few other species of Cortinarius that feature purple caps and/or purple gills. For most the edibility is not known. Definitely not recommended.
