Malibu32
New to foraging. Have found tons of chantrelles around here and loving the detective work involved in mushroom hunting. Having a blast with all the varieties near my home. Needing help identifying All sorts. Many thanks in advance.
brendan
I'd say likely a cortinarius species, maybe C. iodes?
Malibu32
Thx. Is it edible?
brendan
I’m not sure my ID is correct but if it is the mushroom is poisonous. Highly likely it’s poisonous.

Dave W
Cortinarius is a very large genus (100s of species). Some are edible, some are toxic, some are deadly. Except for C. caperatus (which this is not) none taste good. C. iodes is not toxic. maybe 35 years ago I tried some C. iodes. Tastes like dirt. There are quite a few other species of Cortinarius that feature purple caps and/or purple gills. For most the edibility is not known. Definitely not recommended.
