dakotabob
I just received a copy of "Mushrooms of the Upper Midwest" by Teresa Marrone and Kathy Yerich. I bought the book on the strength of a good review by the Minnesota Mycological Society of which I am a member. I have a berry book that I really like that was written by Teresa Marrone entitled, "Wild Berries & Fruit." She has written several of these for various geographical areas. I have the one for Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. I loved the way she formatted that field guide and I figured that she would do a similar guide for mushrooms and I was not disappointed. The book is divided up into easy to read sections. It starts out with the typical introduction section. Then moves off to the top edibles followed by the top toxic section. After that, it breaks down to mushrooms with stems and gills, followed by pored mushrooms and other various cap types. It is a small book and would be fairly easy for someone to take in the field with them. The book has great pictures, is well formatted and I think it would be a great beginners field guide for anyone living in the Midwest. twankburger
Thanks for the recommendation. I am a beginner and I would like to first learn vocabulary related to mushrooms (parts of the mushroom). Included?
Feral Boy
Kathy Yerich gave one to me after we forayed together at the NEMA Foray in Black Mountain, NC. It fits perfectly in your back jeans pocket, and is very informative. I like it that every species description includes lookalikes that it may be confused with.
