Chicken? Laetiporus sulphureus?

Even if it isn’t chicken if the woods, I’m fairly sure there aren’t any seriously poisonous polypores that look similar to the one you found. So I think it would be safe to consume either way but I’m no expert obviously, just speaking from my personal experience.

I'd say these are a species of Laetiporus, probably L. sulphureus. Some people are slightly allergic to Laetiporus. If you try it, begin with a small amount ell-cooked. 

Most polypores are not toxic. But, at least one species --Hapalopilus nidulans-- is deadly poisonous. The one seen in this post is not H. nidulans.
