King Boletes

Recommended Posts

Hi, so this is my third year in the hobby, and the one major group of edibles that I haven't yet had luck with is king boletes. Every time I come across a  brown capped bolete I get excited, and then it turns out to be something like Tylopilus Appalachiensis and I find myself staring at stalks looking for "netting" that I would have seen already if it was there. All I get for my trouble is a half hour of spitting out the bitter taste from the inevitable nibble test lol. I  know it's probably too early in the season now but if anyone has any recommendations for habitat or timing in the mid-atlantic/appalachians i'd be very interested. Thanks!
