MissDeschaneaux
hello all! These are growing all over my yard. I'm fairly certain my tentative i.d. is correct, but would like to know if anyone else can confirm or correct, so I don't eat something that might be toxic. TIA! Dave W
Are these caps all over two inches wide? One thing to be aware of is that some small species of Lepiota are dangerously toxic. The ocher-yellow bruising ion the gills matches Leucoagaricus americanus ("Reddening Lepiota" is a speciesΒ no longer housed in genus Lepiota). If you rub or slice the stalk do you see a similar yellowish stain? Bruising on L. americanus mushrooms should slowly change to a reddish-brown.Β L. americanus generally grows where there is old wood, chips, or woody debris. I have never seen it growing on a lawn.Β
