Schizophyllum Commune

Recommended Posts

Came across this species a few days ago, when I keyed it out my field guide listed it as inedible. I would not have had a second thought because after all, a small furry looking, tough mushroom hardly seems like something to consume, but later I did a google search to see more images and a wikipedia article popped up stating that in the tropics, particularly Mexico and India, this mushroom is frequently consumed and even one of the favorites, possibly because in tropical regions soft fleshed mushrooms rot too quickly for commerce. So I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried this species, and if so, what you thought?
