hudakore
I found several of these in the backyard yesterday. They were about 10" across. One photo is from the top and the other is pulled out and upside down. I'm from southeastern lower Michigan. Can it be identified, please? Dave W
If the spore print is yellow, they are Clitocybe robusta. Other large white Clitocybes have white spore prints. Best way to see the difference between yellow and white prints is on a white background. However, to be able to observe that a print has been obtained, black background readily shows the light-colored prints. Lepistas have pinkish prints, although this looks too chalky-white for any Lepistas I know. Leucopaxillus species have white prints. These are typically large white to tan mushrooms which grow in groups with white mycellium (underground thread-like stuff) attached to the stalk bases. Leucopaxillus types often feature gill material that easily separates from the rest of the cap. I think this is Clitocybe robusta. http://mushroomexpert.com/clitocybe_robusta.html
