Dave W
I think these are a species of Armillaria. Although not sufficient to prove this ID proposal, a creamy white spore print would support it. Are there tiny scales on the cap surfaces? What do the undersides of the caps look like. The shiny cap surfaces and partial veils that cling to the cap margins --not standard traits for Armillaria-- may be the result of prevailing weather conditions. Has there been a recent stretch of warm/dry weather? A few of the mushrooms show that the partial veil has formed an annulus on the stalk, more typical of genus Armillaria. Clusters of Armillaria mushrooms are common in CA during December/January.
