Western Jumbo Gym?

Recommended Posts

It does not look like that type to me.  The color is off for Gymnopilus spectabilis.  Photos of the underside as well as sport print color would be useful.

What used to be called Gymnopilus spectabilis in eastern NA is now mostly called G. junonius  https://www.mushroomexpert.com/gymnopilus_junonius.html . (I assume this is what is meant by "Western Jumbo Gym".)  Color is somewhat variable for this species, although the ones seen here are quite pale. Spore print color is a good trait to support/lead-away form Gymnopilus. These types have rusty orange prints.

Were these growing form the ground/soil, wood. or possibly buried wood?

Seeing more details --like undersides-- would also help.

I think they were growing from the ground, unfortunately I don't have more photos. Indeed it looks very similar to

Cortinarius triumphans Fr.
