Western Jumbo Gym?

Recommended Posts

What used to be called Gymnopilus spectabilis in eastern NA is now mostly called G. junonius  https://www.mushroomexpert.com/gymnopilus_junonius.html . (I assume this is what is meant by "Western Jumbo Gym".)  Color is somewhat variable for this species, although the ones seen here are quite pale. Spore print color is a good trait to support/lead-away form Gymnopilus. These types have rusty orange prints.

Were these growing form the ground/soil, wood. or possibly buried wood?

Seeing more details --like undersides-- would also help.
