Georgia
These mushrooms frequently grow in our backyard and I was wondering if someone could identify the species. We have small children and would like to know what we are dealing with
Dig
Safe to come into contact with, yes. Edibility unknown to me. Skin irritation is very uncommon with mushrooms. If you have a young one that puts everything in their mouths then just remove (btw tasting and spitting is a common practice and regarded as safe to help identify mushrooms). A spore print would be helpful as well as general location. *edit your profile shows vancouver
GCn15
Looks like an ink cap variety of mushroom. Safe.
Dave W
When mushrooms of unknown identity appear in an area frequented by small children or pets, the mushrooms should be removed and discarded. The ones seen here are likely a species of Coprinopsis; probably not toxic but best to play it safe.
