Thinking Matsutake??

gorgeous!! Found in clumps, in an old growth forest... and yes, a very distinctive smell. Like no other. I swear i can still smell them on my hands, hours after...... ❤️

I agree Renee, looks like Matsutake (Tricholoma murrillianum) to me.

Definitely the BC version of Matsutake.  I assume that the stems are almost hard as wood, unless riddled with worm holes.
