Pinecones
I photographed a whole bunch of mushrooms the other day, and most of them so far have received ID suggestions in the Hygrophorus genus. This was another one of those mushrooms I photographed but in my exploration of the Hygrophorus genus I found Chrysodon and it really seems to fit. Thoughts? Didn't take a spore print. Fibrous stalk. Conifer forest. Montana, USA.
Dave W
Looks like a species of Hygrophorus, but I think different than H. chrysodon. The grooved cap seems unusual for H. chrysodon, and I don't see the yellow flakes on the cap/stalk.
Pinecones
I will keep looking. I was really taken with these mushrooms; the caps are so unique and colorful! The yellow rings are something I've never seen before on a cap.
