Clavicorona pyxidata?

Recommended Posts

Found this coral on what appeared to be a rotten hemlock stump here in southern Maine. I can't be positive on the I'd of the stump as it is pretty decayed. I think I have this mushroom identified as a Clavicorona pyxidata. If so, the book says its an edible. Any experience with these ?

Thanks

-Alec

It definitely looks like a crown tip coral to me. I've found one before, but it was a little past eating stage.

Dave Fischer, in Edible Wild Mushrooms of North America, says they make excellent, crispy pizza toppings when fried. But he cautions you to keep a lid on the pan because they will jump out of it as they cook. :)
