dmf38
Cinnabar Chanterelles Wolf's Milk Slime. I had never seen this before. Lobster I don't know if this is Pleurotus ostreatus, or dryinus. Black Trumpets
Dave W
Looks like a ring on the stalk of that Oyster, dmf. So I'd say Pleurotus dryinus. Nice photos.
dmf38
Thanks Dave. Are the dryinus as good to eat as the other oysters?
Dave W
I have found P. dryinus only a few times. It's been awhile, but I seem to recall it having good flavor and a chewy texture.
Luigi Daniele
How good are lobsters on the plate, BTW? Same question re: Cinnabars.
dmf38
Thanks Dave, next time I'll eat some. I did make a spore print and it was pure white. Luigi, that lobster in the picture wasn't in good enough condition to eat -- the underside was rotten. But they're one of my favorite mushrooms to eat when I find them in good condition. I use them in omelets, and they turn the eggs kind of orange. I eat the cinnabars too, but they don't seem as good as the Cantherellis cibarius.
