Mycophagus
Found these two under a juniper bush in my front yard. Faint scent, pinkish gills, dry, smooth cap. I threw a bunch of green spored parasols under the same bush last year but I am uncertain that these are the same, seems like the parasols like sun. CajunShroomer3578
Looks like an Agaricus of some sort
Mycophagus
Does indeed. Has a very brown spore print
Dave W
Species of Agaricus. Do they have an odor/aroma? If you damage the flesh in the stalk base, does it turn yellow?
Mycophagus
Faint anise aroma, no staining or bruising at all. A. arvensis/horse mushroom?
Dave W
Photos and description support proposal that this represents a species of Agaricus section Arvenses, a "Horse Mushroom". Looks like the gills have turned from a young gray to a mature dark brown without a pink stage, a trait associated with section Arvenses. The distinct species in this grouping differ microscopically. Here in eastern PA the most common species (at least during the past 10 years) seems to be A. crocodilinus. For the table, I avoid ones that are growing near busy roadways. Agaricus mushrooms are known to uptake undesirable substances from their surroundings.
