Hairy Eyeball, August 9 in Identifying Mushrooms
old Boletus russelli?
Thank you troutddicted, that about as close as I've seen, but still seems off because they are not very old, they just popped up recently. A naturalist I know said it was in the Basidiomycete kingdom, if that helps anyone. Thank You.
Heh, your naturalist friend was basically telling you "it's a mushroom" . Not sure on this one, but very beautiful! There's a fellow named Dave who makes the rounds, he'll probably be able to help!
I love it Brendan, you funny! Looking forward to Daves mushroom prowess.
I think these may be Battarrea phalloides http://www.mushroomexpert.com/battarrea_phalloides.html . Looks like the "caps" on these have lost heir skin, exposing the spore mass which takes on a grainy/powdery appearance.
Dave, I believe you're spot on with your identification, all seems to line up. Thank you very much, happy times in the forest...
