Renee
I find these beauties in my front lawn. As far as I know the are fairy ring mushrooms?? They seem to have a silvery whitest ‘dust’ under some of them - what is that?
Dave W
The dust is probably a spore deposit. These do look like Marasmius oreades. How large are the caps?
Renee
Approximately the size of a toonie down to the size of a dime. The smaller ones are domed.
Dave W
What's a "toonie"? Small size and domed caps point toward Marasmius oreades.
bobby b
I googled it. A Canadian $2 coin. I didn't realize photos dropped over the words would split the text. My toonies cost 16 cents to make but Canadian banks paid face value for them. A good profit margin for the mint.
Renee
Sorry, my bad, I assumed everyone would know a toonie.
vitog
The photo doesn't really provide any information about its size. A toonie is about 1-1/16" or 27 mm in diameter.
GCn15
In Canada we originally had the $1 coin called the loonie because it had a loon on the front, and because people thought it was crazy to switch from paper bills to coins. When the $2 bill was eliminated the creative minds in Canada came up with the term of affection "twoonie". An extension of the popular loonie term. For the record, I among millions of other Canadians, absolutely hated the idea of taking our small denominations and making them into coins. Now....I wouldn't have it any other way. Dave W
What is the diameter of a toonie?
bobby b
Vitog said 27mm. I measured it with a caliper & it was just under 28mm, so a little over an inch.
Dave W
Small cap diameter supports the M. oreades ID proposal.
