GCn15
I'm not seeing the stalk reticulation that one would hope for a b. edulis.
Renee
Thanks so much for the quick reply!!ย What type of mushroom do you think they are?ย
Dave W
My guess is this represents a species of genus Suillus. Are there pines in the area?
Renee
Yes. I found them amongst Ponderosa pines.ย Are these edible? I looked up the botanical name and it mention some are - would these happen to be? They smell so beautiful...
Renee
With myย ย research this morning, looks like I have found Sillius Brevipes. ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป Any thoughts on how these can be stored?
Dave W
Suillus species are mainly considered to be edible, although some people report gastrointestinal distress if the slimy cap cuticle is consumed (for a few species). Peeling the cap cuticle off a bunch of Suillus mushrooms can take some time/patience. With a few exceptions, edible Suillus mushrooms are not considered to be choice edibles.ย Suillus mushrooms may be dehydrated and stored in jars. Make sure they're good and dry! A Russianย friend of mine says he likes them pickled.ย
