Steph
I have several of these behind my shed and wanted to know what kind of mushroom are these? My husband thinks they’re truffles.
Dave W
I think these are a species of Pisolithus http://www.mushroomexpert.com/pisolithus_arenarius.html . Not a type of truffle. Depending upon the age of the fruit body, if you vertically section a Pisolithus mushroom then the view of the interior shows layers, some of which look like compacted grains. If the interior is uniformly white, or composed completely of powder, then you may just have a puffball (species of Calvatia).
