ChrisJPN
I live in Japan. There are several mushrooms growing in my inner garden. My kids want a dog and I’m a little concerned if these are poisonous or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dave W
Top two photos look like a species of Conocybe. Third photo looks like these mushroom may be from genus Panaeolus. Spore print color would settle this question. Conocybe mushrooms have cinnamon to rusty-brown colored spore prints; Panaeolus have black spore prints. Also, similar to Panaeolus is Panaeola foenisecii, which has a very dark purple brown print (almost black). Also, genus Psathyrella should be considered (purple brown print). ChrisJPN
Thanks for your reply, Dave. So, you believe these might be hallucinogenic or potentially lethal? I don’t know anything about this but I assume not good for a dog and also nothing I want my kids to mess around with.
Dave W
Probably not lethal, although a few types of LBM (Little Brown Mushroom) are dangerously toxic. Best to remove unidentified wild mushrooms from an area where small children play or pets are kept.
