Teabee
Hi, found near the southwest coast of FL curious if it's a Lions Mane?
Dave W
Not a Lion's Mane, nor is this any other species of Hericium. Hericium mushrooms have fertile surface consisting of pointed spines measuring up to 5 cm in length. The fungus seen here has fertile surface consisting of pores (openings). The walls/tubes of the pores seen in the top photo appear to be slightly elongated, maybe up to 1 mm. But, this is not like the spines seen on any of several NA species of Hericium. The hairy upper surface is interesting. Compare with Postia tephroleuca https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postia_tephroleuca . Another possibility is a species from genus Tyromyces. Teabee
Thank you so much! I think you are correct it could be ether of the two but the first one you listed is more likely.
