arosenbeck
First time mushroom hunter and I don't really have any resources available to me with the knowledge of mushrooms so I figured I'd join this forum and ask yall! I found this today, 5/1/19 on a 3" diameter stick in the woods in Indiana. Pretty bright orange and stuck out like a sore thumb in the green and brown backdrop of the woods. Any idea what it is? Edible? I know you generally stay away from bright colors in the wild but figured I'd ask Thanks!
GJC
Nice pictures.....I am not an expert by any means but take a look at polyporus alveolaris, the hexagonal-pored polypore..... George
Dave W
Correct GJC. The new name for this common spring polypore is Neofavolus alveolaris... at least that was still the name last week :-) when I snapped these photos.
