Can someone identify this mushroom?

Recommended Posts

For a more confident ID proposal, more info is needed... photo of underside of cap, information on gill attachment to stalk, gill color, spore print color, base of stalk (which would need to be excavated).

I think this may be a species of Coprinopsis. I don't immediately recognize this an any particular species of Coprinopsis. C. variegata typically lacks the radially lined cap, although lines may develop as the mushroom ages  http://www.mushroomexpert.com/coprinopsis_variegata.html  . C. romagnesiana seems like a possibility, except I'm not sure if this species occurs with radially lined cap   http://www.mushroomexpert.com/coprinopsis_romagnesiana.html  . C. atramentaria typically lacks the prominent scales    http://www.mushroomexpert.com/coprinopsis_atramentaria.html

There are a few other species of Coprinopsis that may also be considered. Also, as I wrote above, more details would possibly provide for a more confident proposal. If this is a species of Coprinopsis, the gills will turn black and eventually dissolve into a black gooey mess.
