Dave W
First two pics (brick-red caps) are a Hypholoma species. There are a few possibilities for the species... H. sublateritius (now called H. lateritius... I guess it got a promotion :-) is a type that grows on wood of deciduous trees. H. capnoides grows on coniferous wood. The poisonous H. fasciculare usually shows a greenish tint on the gills and is generally more yellow than the ones seen here. Third, fourth, fifth pics are a type (types?) of Pholiota. The difference in color may be due to differences in lighting for the last two pics. Or maybe these are different fruitings? P. aurivella is one possibility. This "Golden Pholiota" is usually sticky/slimy and is often found growing from a wound on a living hardwood tree such as maple.
