PA Morels

Recommended Posts

Okay, cicada larvae looks like it's probably what's making those holes/piles.

I agree about Tracy's Black Morels, one of the mulch/wood-chip species most common in western NA. I once found two Black Morels growing on spread mulch/chips next to a store in downtown Wilkes-Barre, PA. Not sure about the species names for the black mulch morels. I assume "Bonny Kake" was meant to be Bonney Lake, a city in WA.

Things are still happening in N Allegheny County. I'm calling these M diminutiva. Under Tulip Poplar. Found about 60, 45 were in good shape. Almost all were small except this one. Color was variable with a cone shaped cap.

Checked a much larger tulip poplar area today. M diminutiva only really happening in a small spot. Just 2 today with 3 past prime. The elms really haven't produced anything yet. Just 3 about 10 days ago.

Yup, I'd call those Morchella diminutiva. I'll continue to check a few of my spots after this rain pull out.
