alex1111
I came across these just outside of a farm area. In Northern California growing out of ground. I would appreciate any help you might provide in identifying these interesting mushrooms. Many thanks in advance!
Dave W
They don't appear to be deliquescing, and I don't see any ornamentation on the cap surfaces (grains/scales). So I think we may rule out Coprinellus and Coprinopsis (Inky Caps). If the spore print is jet-black, then I'd say (genus) Panaeolus. If the spore print is dark purple-brown (possibly almost black), then maybe a species of Psathyrella or Panaeolina.
