Rocketbox
I was out hunting today and ran across this giant mushroom growing on a dying oak tree. It looks like a Lions mane to me, but i also have no clue what i'm talking about. Any help would be much appreciated.
Dave W
Apparently you do have an idea regarding what you're talking about. This looks like Hericium erinaceus (Lion's Mane, Satyr's Beard) to me. Hericium is a genus of wood-dwelling fungi that is not particularly difficult to learn to recognize. Sometimes IDing to species can be challenging. Occasionally, H. erinaceus and H. americanum resemble each other.

Dave W
That's the same mushroom as seen in the other photos!?! By far, the biggest Hericium erinaceus I've ever seen.
