Gillian
On yesterday's walk I found this growing out the end of a well rotted stump, possibly cottonwood. It seems to be surrounded by older specimens, particularly above it. On the other part of the fallen log were the intact older specimens, very tough and leathery. I've read that young Ischnoderma resinosum is edible. Has anyone tried it? I loved the amount of resin drops, they really caught my eye. Dave W
Nice shot of the resin drops. My wife and I went for a short hike today along a favorite trail. Lots of Ischnoderma rsinosum on various logs and fallen trees. I mentioned to her that some people say the young/soft material is edible, but I have never sampled it. Maybe it's time to add another one to my life list.
Gillian
Thanks! It's a short distance from my house but I have to keep the 7-point buck in my sight when I go back there...it's his territory, LOL. He watches me, and the turkeys get quite upset if I go in the afternoon when they are already getting ready to roost. The forest is alive!
