ChristiaandeWit
Hey guys. I'm quite unfamiliar with corals. I've never bothered with them until now since mushrooms are becoming a little more scarce is eastern NC. Could I get an ID. And if it's edible... Id like to know how y'all prepare it usually. Thanks for the help.
shroomersue
If it was growing on the ground, which i presume by that base, its ramaria of some sort. Not an edible. Smell? Location.?, these details can lead you to an i.d. proposal.
ChristiaandeWit
The smell is sweet. Reminiscent of vanilla or anise maybe. Growing on the shore of a pond under mainly oak trees
Dave W
In western NA there's a reddish Ramaria species that is a popular edible. The mushroom seen in this discussion is not the same species, although I agree it's most likely a species of Ramaria. Eastern NA Ramarias are mostly bitter-tasting and most are said to have a laxative effect when consumed. Not recommended as an edible.
