Gillian
I'm pretty sure these must be Auricularis auricula...very jelly like. They are the most beautiful black-purple colour, like a deep black currant. Soup?
MushroomDan
Looks like wood ear or tree ear. Yep! Soup time!! One of my favs!
Gillian
They dry out easily...I'll put them in a container and see if I can find some more in good condition. Some I found today seemed past their prime...the ear tore easily and there was much less shine to the underside.
MushroomDan
We always dry them out for longer storage.
CamilleR
Not sure but they look too old to me.
Gillian
They were very "juicy" and shiny and plump when I picked them. It's hard to see in the picture. They have certainly dried out now...
Dave W
I think the mushrooms seen in the photos here may be Exidia recisa. This species forms ear-like lobes similar to Aricularia, except the flesh is flabby or almost like jelly. Fresh Auricularia has firmer rubbery flesh. It's easy to confuse E. recisa with Auricularia. Gillian
Thanks, looking at other pictures that seems closer to what I have. They are small.
