Dave W
I agree, a Wax Cap Mushroom. There are a few different species of white ones. The decurrent gills suggest Cuphophyllus virgineus as a possibility http://www.mushroomexpert.com/cuphophyllus_virgineus.html .
Joehomie
Thanks Dave,I was confused until I took a good look at the gills, worried it may have been the sweater or other bad boy
Dave W
Actually, this does somewhat resemble Clitocybe dealbata (Sweating Mushroom). I recommend refraining from eating this mushroom, or any other that resembles it... unless a completely confident ID can be made and C. dealbata --and other related species-- are definitely ruled out. Sorry for any confusion here. Another possible ID for this mushroom is Infundibulicybe gibba (although it seems to be too pale/white for this species). Dave W
Sorry, I should have looked more carefully at this one. I *think* it's C. virgineus, but the white spore print and general appearance do not rule out Clitocybe. I haven't seen the small white "Funnel Clitocybe" mushrooms this year. (I usually see quite a few on my lawn.) So I wasn't thinking of this mushroom at the time I first viewed the photos/description.
